Overwhelmed by the constant barrage of emails, interruptions, and expectations?
As a leader driven by an inner voice urging you to do more, it can feel relentless. Despite starting your day with focus, the hyper-achiever within is never satisfied. Each completed task only makes the next task on your list seem more urgent.
I find myself in the same cycle. Today, I promised to enjoy a sunny walk at lunch. It’s now 3 PM, and I’ve tackled three tasks since then. Writing this article for the Leader’s Exchange Sandbox feels paramount, yet the sun is fading.
Many leaders I coach worry about time management and productivity. They achieve a lot, yet fear they’re not reaching their potential, labeling themselves as lazy or procrastinators. But they’re not lazy—they’re successful! Lazy people don’t seek coaching.
So, what’s the solution?
While many strategies can reduce workplace noise and distractions, the real change begins with addressing the inner voice:
1. Recognize that the voice urging you to do more is just a thought, deserving only brief attention.
2. Acknowledge its message as a mere warning, unworthy of your energy.
3. Question its truth and let self-judgment fade.
4. Choose what’s important and celebrate your achievements—minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day.
Self-improvement starts with mindset awareness and understanding your inner dialogue. Once you do, you can take action. As all hyper-achievers know, doing feels so much better. 😅
