From Surviving to Thriving Supercharge Your Day

What sets productive, enthusiastic people apart from everyone else?

You might argue they are born this way. They are always the first ones to get to work or complete their tasks and projects.

But I don’t believe in this for one second. I can tell you that I am a very different person than the person I was in high school. While many people approach life as if their success is predetermined by their genetics and circumstances, there are many others whom I wouldn’t recognize because they have so effectively changed their personality….their personal reality.

This is the definition of a growth mindset that Carol Dweck talks about in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. People who choose a growth mindset seek ongoing learning and improvements. For them, success is more about learning and growing rather than arriving.

So, how do you get from surviving to thriving?

One way to supercharge your day is to have a meeting with yourself. It’s much like those standup meetings or early morning on-line check-ins with team members, but it is with you…you first. And just like those team meetings, the purpose is to get yourself in an energized and optimistic state to greet the day before you. My guiding work for 2025 is ‘RESET’, and this practice of priming is a key practice I have included in my day. Every morning, I spend 15 minutes priming myself for energy, gratitude, and optimism. I reset every single day.

Try it, and I guarantee you will approach your day in a state that gets you rocking and rolling. Team members will notice and benefit from the energy you bring to work. You will see productivity go up and better conversations develop.

Make it a daily practice for two weeks and reflect on the impact you feel. Then let me know how your thoughts and emotions change and the result on your actions and behaviors.
