You drag yourself into the office earlier than your team, trying desperately to organize the mountain of tasks, e-mails, memos and missed calls, before the day unravels.  You know the truly important task you want to accomplish will get pushed aside as you get drawn into other people’s problems and priorities.   As your people start trickling in, your mind is besieged by the day’s challenges, leaving you barely able to muster a half-hearted nod of acknowledgement.

The cursory exchanges about commutes, families, and well-being are met with forced smiles and superficial responses. This isn’t about connection; it’s a hollow ritual that everyone endures. Remote team members receive a perfunctory check-in, further alienating them from the day’s activities.
