This year, I’ve embarked on a big change. Initially, I was captivated by the idea, but the steps involved were daunting. I’m sure many can relate to this feeling.
When I first committed to this change, I felt a rush of excitement—a dopamine hit, if you will. It felt like this would improve everything, and the success seemed tangible. But soon, the unfamiliar steps became intimidating, and the comfort of routine started calling me back.
Here’s the story of my big change:
A few years ago, my husband and I embraced the full-time RV lifestyle. However, this year we decided to switch gears by spending three months traveling by car while continuing our hybrid work lifestyle. We used Trusted House Sitters to find homes in different towns where we offer pet care while the homeowners travel. We’re spending January in one town, February in another, and March in a third—each place, a new adventure.
Imagining the new scenery, cultures, and historic sites was exhilarating, and we signed up without hesitation. But when it came time to close up the RV and pack for three months, including all our office necessities, doubt crept in.
As we packed, I felt waves of regret. But there was no going back. Finally, with the packing complete, I felt ready to hit the road, excited about our adventure.
What I’ve discovered is that while successful change requires a compelling purpose, it also involves creating a system and sticking with it. Through every change, I learn something new about myself and find ways to make the process just a bit easier.
This journey has taught me to embrace change with open arms with a spirit of curiosity. Here’s to a year of growth and new experiences!
