Time for a Reset, eh!

As a leadership coach, I’m expected to kick off the year by extolling the virtues of goal setting. But honestly, I feel like Mr. Scrooge on New Year’s Eve—bah humbug! Why? Because I’ve penned countless New Year’s resolutions only to find them buried in my journals, forgotten and unfulfilled.

This year, I’m breaking the cycle. No financial goals, no relationship goals, not even a health goal.

Who’s with me? 

In the past, setting goals gave me a temporary rush of excitement, but by the end of January, they were distant memories. The strategies I thought would lead me to success seemed inadequate. So, instead of focusing on goals, I’m turning my attention to the systems and practices that propel me forward.

This January, I’m scrutinizing the systems that have brought me here. Some need tweaking, others a complete overhaul. As a solopreneur, my systems include marketing, sales, product/service development, professional development, and personal development. Each will be examined under a microscope to gain fresh insights. We are creatures of habit, seeking comfort and predictability. But comfort breeds stagnation, and it’s time for a shake-up.

In each system and practice, I’ll apply a new lens, a different angle, a fresh perspective. I’ll challenge everything with questions like:

– Why am I doing this?

– Do I enjoy doing this? Could it be done faster or easier?

– Is there a new tool, perhaps an AI app, that could help?

– How can I rearrange my workspace to feel like I’m starting a new job?

– Who haven’t I connected with in a while? Who holds different opinions?

– What new podcasts can I explore on unfamiliar topics?

– What new sport or hobby can I learn?

– Can I disrupt my routine, like brushing my teeth with my left hand?

– How can I embrace discomfort?

I want to challenge the status quo and get comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s time to reset and retool every process!
