What do the patterns of responses to the polls suggest to you?

Before you answer the question, I want to be absolutely clear that this poll cannot be viewed as scientific research for a host of reasons. Nonetheless, I share it because it does mimic a well known and researched pattern. We all have blind spots in our assessment of how we interact with others. One way to interpret the pattern of the two polls is that Leaders may not be as aware about their impact as they believe.

The act of showing concern for their Team Members needs, interest and aspirations is one behaviour that builds trust. Trust is an essential attribute for strong relationships. And it is also essential for work environments to be productive and innovated. Leaders, who show interest in their Team Members’ work and home lives, trigger the feeling of connection and builds the employee’s confidence that their Leader has their back. When an employee feels that their Leader has their back, they direct their energies into their work, rather than into protective behaviours.

I chose to ask this question in May in light of it being Mental Health Awareness month. With a rise in stress levels and burnout, Leaders can mitigated absenteeism and mediocre productivity by authentically demonstrating that they care.

My takeaway from the poll results is that it would be better for Leaders to connect more with their Team Members, even if they feel they are doing it consistently and frequently. What do you think of my conclusion? What else might be going on between Leaders and their Team Members?
